Should You Change Your Career?

I burnt out in my third year of teaching.

I was working 60+ hours a week during the school year and constantly stressed out. Summer vacations were nice, but not enough. I realized that teaching at my school was not sustainable for me.

I knew I needed a different job. But that was all I had done since college.

Over the next year, I began preparing to switch from teaching and ended up succeeding beyond my expectations. I went to a Coding Bootcamp, and got a job as a Software Engineer at a great company.

As a result, I almost tripled my salary and am 100x happier in my current job.

But deciding to switch from teaching to tech wasn’t an easy process. I knew I had a bunch of potential jobs I was interested in: teaching English abroad, recruiting at a tech company, or working at the FBI (yes, this was a real consideration).

I had lots of questions, but no answers. So I started exploring, researching, and talking to people. Along the way, I decided that I wanted to leave teaching to go into tech.

I discovered a framework to figure out what I could do next. I believe if you follow the same approach, you can find something that will make you much happier (and maybe more money).

I’m a Software Engineer with too many hobbies. I write about whatever I think is interesting.
